Vanterre began with a single conviction: that the things we live with should outlast us. For fifteen years we travelled — workshop to workshop, valley to valley — looking for the woodworkers whose hands still remember the old joinery, and the designers whose instinct for proportion simply can’t be taught.

We were patient about it. We turned down far more makers than we kept. What remained is a small, stubbornly good circle of craftspeople we would trust with an heirloom — which is precisely what we ask them to build, every single time.

Today every piece is designed in New York and made to order, finished by hand. No season’s trend, no disposable shortcut, no warehouse full of compromise. Just furniture composed for a life of quiet permanence.
